Optical Measurement Applications

Dimension measurement under extreme conditions

LogoTek supplies optical sensor systems for measurement tasks in heavy industry. These include:

Slab Measurement

Measurement of cold and hot slabs in all dimensions using 1D and 2D sensors.
  • Determination of length, width, thickness, and profile
  • Accuracy < 1 mm
  • Material temperatures up to 1350 °C
  • Vibration-damped measuring frame with air purging/cooling for high measurement accuracy

Inline Ring Measurement

Inline ring-measurement systems are installed in the production flow and measure hot and cold rings at production cycle rates. The scope can include:

  • Robot with a 2D triangulation sensor
  • Measuring bridge above the roller table
  • Hydraulic lifting and lowering device for the measuring position
  • Pusher for positioning the ring on the roller table
  • Safety fences and hydraulic units

Stationary Ring Measurement

Stationary (offline) ring measurement systems are used for measuring cold and hot rings in all dimensions.

By means of three or more 2D triangulation sensors, a 2D cross-sectional image of the ring is generated.
This image is transformed into a 3D representation by rotating the ring on a turntable.

Scanner-based Material Tracking

Scanner-based material tracking and measurement on roller tables for slabs and other flat products:

  • Resolution below 10 cm
  • Continuous tracking over long distances through interacting 2D scanners
  • Integration of light barriers, encoders and cameras
  • Interfaces to Level 1 roller-table and furnace PLCs and Level 2 process computers or warehouse-management systems
  • Applications for material tracking and slab positioning in front of furnaces

Billet Measurement

Measurement of hot and cold billets/blooms.

Laser Doppler sensors for length determination, 1D and 2D triangulation sensors for thickness/height/profile.
Applications for online quality control and determination of cutting position (shear control).

LogoTek develops contactless measurement systems for slab measurement, billet measurement and coil measurement, supported by industrial sensor systems.

FAQ

Questions about optical measurement

Answers about contact-free measurement in demanding industrial processes.

Why use contact-free optical measurement?

It can capture dimensional information without mechanically touching the product or interrupting the intended handling process.

Which products can be measured?

Systems are configured for the required geometry, such as coils, slabs, long products or rings, and for the available installation space.

Can measurement be used near hot material?

A system concept can be designed for demanding environmental conditions, subject to the product, distance, protection and accuracy requirements.

Where can measurement results be sent?

Results can be displayed locally and transferred to automation, quality or higher-level systems through defined interfaces.
