The manufacture of long products depends on reliable traceability from semi-finished material to the next processing step. Billets, blooms, bars, rods and wire products differ in geometry and handling requirements, but they share the need for clear identification, accurate dimensional data and coordinated transport. LTWMS supports the warehouse and transport management of materials such as billets, blooms and wires. It records locations and material history, visualizes storage areas in 2D or 3D and can generate transport orders from production planning data. Configurable storage rules and interfaces to Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 systems make it possible to adapt the solution to the existing production and logistics environment.

Optical identification systems can read stamped identifiers on billets or paint-marked codes on blooms. Camera-based barcode and 2D-code recognition provides further options where labels or codes are used. For hot and cold billets and blooms, Laser Doppler sensors determine length, while 1D and 2D triangulation sensors measure height, thickness and profile. The resulting data can support online quality control and the determination of cutting positions for shear control.
